Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Russian Security Council, stressed that his country's response to the ban on the transit of goods to the Kaliningrad province would be "extremely harsh and able to cut off oxygen" for Lithuania.
"It is natural that Russia will take retaliatory measures and they will be very harsh," Medvedev said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Argumenti i Facty, noting that a large part of the possibilities are of an economic nature and are able to cut off oxygen from our neighbors in the Baltic region who have taken hostile measures.

Medvedev added: Moscow can apply unequal measures, which will lead to a dangerous escalation of the conflict, explaining that such an escalation is a bad option and ordinary citizens of Lithuania, whose standard of living is already low, will suffer from it.
