French Health Minister Brigitte Bourguignon is asking people to wear masks on public transport again.

The reason is a new wave of corona, which is being promoted by virus variants, said Bourguignon on the broadcaster RTL France.

The step is not binding.

However, she appeals to “civic duty”.

The masks should also be put on again at work or in shops.

France reported 17,601 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, the highest number on a Monday since April 18.

The number of new infections in the country has risen steadily since the end of May.

Five days ago, the national vaccination officer Alain Fischer confirmed that France, like other European countries, was in the midst of a new corona wave.

He had spoken out in favor of the reintroduction of the mask requirement on public transport.
