Eichenau – Like six years ago, the mayor in Eichenau will be determined in a runoff.
On July 10, the decision will be made between incumbent Peter Münster (FDP, 49.63 percent) and Green candidate Markus Hausberger (28.38 percent).
The
CSU candidate Peter Zeiler
(22.0 percent) is out of the running.
Voter turnout was 54.11 percent.
By a full
21 votes, the Liberal Münster missed
the absolute majority that would have been necessary for immediate re-election.
"I would have been happy, but I'm not disappointed,"
explained Münster in a first reaction.
The situation of having to go to the run-off election was not new to him, Münster referred to 2016. "
Now the marathon will be ten kilometers longer,
" Münster announced another "very personal and energetic election campaign".
Challenger Hausberger
also speaks of a very committed further election campaign
.
He respectfully accepts the gap of a good 21 percent to Münster.
"
But every gap can be closed,"
says Hausberger.
This was the first time he had contested such an election.
It was a great success to have forced an established incumbent and experienced local politician into the runoff.
Zeiler now only spectators
The Christian-Soziale Zeiler has to be content with the spectator role.
He made no secret of his disappointment.
"
I imagined a little bit more.
At least get into the runoff,
”said Zeiler in a first reaction.
As a CSU, you can't blame yourself for anything.
"
We fought well,
" said Zeiler, also for the local chapter of Eichenau.
According to local chairman
Michael Wölfl
, he was open- ended at the beginning of the week with regard to a recommendation for the runoff election.
The situation seems a little clearer for the
Free Voters
, who had already positioned themselves against Hausberger in advance.
Claus Guttenthaler
indicates in which direction things can go, even if he expressly emphasizes that this is his private opinion: "
Münster should be able to continue its work.
Working with him is constructive.
"
Eichenaus
Social Democrats
will continue to be fully on the side of the Greens candidate: "
There is no reason to end this," said
Gertrud Merkert
, deputy leader of the parliamentary group
.
She expects an intensive election campaign until July 10th.
