Severe weather forecast for Germany: At the start of the week, there is a risk of violent thunderstorms with heavy rain, large hail and hurricane gusts.
Offenbach – In Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg it already poured heavily during the night on Monday.
During thunderstorms around the Palatinate Forest, around 60 liters per square meter came down from the sky.
The German Weather Service (DWD) announced this on Monday via Twitter.
When it comes to the weather in Germany, there are already more thunderstorms with severe weather, the DWD warns.
Especially in the south and east!

In the west, on the other hand, it is only 17 to 20 degrees - and that from Berlin to the Alps.
"At the air mass limit, heavy showers and thunderstorms form in the afternoon from Berlin-Brandenburg to the south-east of Bavaria," explains weather expert Jung.
That has storm potential.
“Today, so-called downbursts or even tornadoes are a threat in the event of particularly severe storms.
Hail, heavy rain and squalls are also to be expected.” Dark clouds are also likely to gather around Schloss Elmau, where the G7 summit is currently taking place.

Weather phenomenon: what is a downburst?
The term "
downburst
" goes back to the scientist Theodore Fujita (1981).
It is a destructive thunderstorm phenomenon, as the DWD explains.
Fujita said literally "... something comes down from the sky and hits the ground..." and coined the term "downburst" for this destructive thunderstorm phenomenon.
A "downburst" is a strong downdraft, also known as a downdraft, that occurs during severe thunderstorms.
According to the DWD, in weather conditions with the formation of supercells, downbursts and tornadoes can also occur in addition to thunderstorms.

What does the weather mean for Seven Sleepers Day?
By the way: This Monday (June 27th) is Seven Sleepers Day.
And this day has absolutely nothing to do with the summer weather in the next seven weeks, emphasizes weatherman Jung.
All weather models would not currently expect a hot summer.
July and August 2022 should only be slightly warmer than usual.
Otherwise, no major deviations are to be expected.
According to the meteorologist, there may be individual hot days, but he believes that a week-long heat wave is rather unlikely.
It remains to be seen whether the first summer forecasts will come true.
