The Metro Law, which is intended to budget for the construction of the subway system in Gush Dan, was not included in the agreements reached tonight (Monday) between the coalition and the opposition on the legislation that will go up until the dissolution of the Knesset.
In the vicinity of Transport Minister Merav Michaeli, they expressed anger at coalition chairman Boaz Toporovsky and Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid, who "abandoned the law" during the negotiations with the opposition, and said that Michaeli would continue to try to advance the law with the coalition and opposition factions independently before dispersal. Following
the
decision not to promote the law, Michaeli wrote on Twitter that "if the Metro law does not pass because some of my coalition members surrender to the opposition on the backs of the public, they will have to account for why the national project that will get us out of traffic jams stopped because of petty politics."
The opposition of the Minister of Transportation was joined by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who called on coalition members to promote the law.
"Do not deprive Israel of such a vital metro," Bennett said.
"Israel is a modern country that does not have a metro like in New York, Paris or London, so we suffer endless traffic jams. There is no right or left here. No one will really get votes from the public from the 'credit' of passing the law.
" If the law does not pass now, It will be postponed for many years and the children of all of us will pay the price, "Bennett continued." Whenever we are in traffic jams, Israelis will remember that some small politicians prevented them from taking the metro for puzzling reasons.
Let the metro move. "

"Do not give in to the blackmail of the ultra-Orthodox parties," Lieberman wrote in a Twitter post. "Billions of shekels that have already been invested in the metro project must not be allowed to go down the drain just for political reasons.
According to coalition sources, the ultra-Orthodox factions and religious Zionism demanded that a section be added to the law regarding the operation of the project on Saturday as a condition for raising the law, so the law was not included in the coalition and opposition agreements until the Knesset is dissolved on Wednesday night.
The chairman of Religious Zionism, MK Bezalel Smutrich, said he would agree to support the law but on the condition that the project does not operate on Saturday, and Michaeli rejected the condition outright.
Among the laws on which agreements have been reached are the Shaked alternative to TMA 38, the Omikron Compensation Law for Business Owners and Assistance to Victims of National Disaster.
The coalition is now putting heavy pressure on the opposition to agree to the approval of the law without the conditions until the dissolution of the Knesset.
