The popular ones "do not rule out" in any case presenting to the Executive an agreement proposal on the CGPJ

After giving up last Friday the negotiations to renew the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), the PP back down.

The popular ones assure that they are still willing to negotiate the unblocking of the governing body of the judges, with the mandate expired for more than three years, but they ask the Government to rectify its plans to try to renew the Constitutional Court as soon as possible.

The PP demands that the Executive either withdraw its express reform that allows the CGPJ to appoint the magistrates of the Constitutional Court, or expand it to allow the body to make all the appointments that are pending, not only those of the court of guarantees, which would imply in fact that the Executive rectify itself completely.

However, even if that doesn't happen,

The PP is now reluctant to consider the talks broken, as Alberto Núñez Feijóo did last Friday, after the PSOE registered a proposal through the urgent procedure to reform an article, 570 bis, of the Organic Law of the Judiciary , with the aim of facilitating the immediate renewal, before the summer, of the Constitutional Court (TC), achieving that the majority becomes from the progressive sector.

The Socialists justified this rush by the "impossibility" of closing a pact with the PP to agree on the renewal, with whom they maintain that there have not really been in-depth conversations yet despite the fact that Feijóo has been serving as opposition leader for four months.

The Constitutional Court has to decide soon on important issues such as the PP's recourse to the abortion law,

The popular ones accuse the Government of wanting to "control" the Constitutional Court by reforming the law only so that the CGPJ can renew this court and not the rest, although at the same time they recognize that the Executive is within its right to appoint the TC magistrates that They correspond, as all governments in democracy have done, also those of the PP.

However, the PP's Institutional Deputy Secretary, Esteban González Pons, has insisted that in the face of this movement in La Moncloa "the suspicion that there is a control maneuver [by the TC] is quite solid."

Not only about the Constitutional, since González Pons has spoken of a general "institutional assault" by Pedro Sánchez, who ensures that it also affects organizations such as the CIS, the INE and Indra.

The PP maintains that it would be "legitimized" to break off the talks on the CGPJ after the government's "unilateral" movement on the Constitutional, but it will not do so, although on Friday it implied that it would.

“We have more sense of State than the Government of Spain.

We are more responsible than the Government of Spain”, González Pons assured at a press conference in Genoa.

Therefore, the next step is to demand a rectification to continue speaking;

“We offer the Government to withdraw the reform of the law by which it allows the CGPJ to elect magistrates of the TC, or to expand that intention and completely repeal the reform by which it prevented the CGPJ from making appointments.

And we talk again”, the leader of the PP has specified.

The popular return, therefore, to the arena of negotiation.

The leadership of the PP feels the pressure of the judicial career to renew the Judiciary once and for all, and for this reason it admits that even if the Government does not satisfy its conditions, it is possible that they will also present their proposed agreement in the coming weeks.

The loop for the failed negotiation on the Judiciary has not ended, but the PP does not want to be the first to get up from the table.
