Fruit Therapy Trap

Household flower pots may add a lot of charm and color to any home, but along with that they may also attract annoying flies.

The fly that usually appears around flower pots is the fermentation fly - small black flies that incubate in places where there is rot and in our case in the growing medium of the pot where rot can develop due to over-watering.

The adult flies do not sting or harm but the fly larvae feed on the roots of the plant and destroy it.

But do not worry, on the We Thrift website plant lovers have shared six good ways to help you get rid of the flies and other insects that are attracted to seedlings.

Use the same lint remover

cleaning tool consisting of a roll of one-sided adhesive tape mounted on a pulley with a handle commonly used to remove animal hair from clothing, but it can also help get rid of insects and eggs on the leaves and kill them.

Just roll it gently on the leaves of the plant to collect the insects, aphids and their offspring, before you throw them in the trash.

"It's important to replace a new sheet on the sticky roller after cleaning each plant," advises Nick Drew, "this will prevent all plants that have not yet been infected from becoming infected with insect eggs."

2. Add cinnamon to the soil

Cinnamon is a spice that flies really do not like and it works as a fungicide, it also kills the fungi and spores on the soil where your plant is planted and makes it a place not suitable for animals to live.

All you need is to sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on the ground.

Sprinkle sand on the surface

Flies are attracted to moist and rotten material so that if you cover the soil with a pot of sand, you can reduce the moisture, create a barrier between the insects and the soil of the pot and kill the flies.

"Insects like to lay their eggs on moist soil so that its drying prevents it. Fermentation flies are attracted to moisture and biodegradable substances that are inside the soil, such as peat or compost," experts say "to prevent them from laying eggs and to ensure they do not infect other plants. At home, scatter sand on the ground in a pot. "

In addition, avoid over-watering the plants, and be sure to use unique soil for houseplants.

4. Put matches in the soil

Another easy and surprising solution to get rid of insects and flies is to stick some matches in the soil of the pot.

"All you have to do is place a few matches in the ground with their heads facing down, and about 5 inches from the edge of the pot," they advise, ".

Once the match head dissolves, replace it to keep your plant protected.
