On hunger strike since his arrest, Hamadi Jebali was hospitalized on Saturday under arrest, according to his lawyers.
Hamadi Jebali was arrested on Thursday in Sousse, 150 km south of the capital Tunis, on charges of money laundering in connection with transferring funds from abroad to a charity in Tunisia, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
He denies these accusations and accuses the authorities of settling political scores.
For more than a month, Hamadi Jebali, former Prime Minister (2011-2013) and who resigned from Ennahdha since 2014, has been the subject of an investigation into the activities of his boiler manufacturing workshop in the Sousse region.

Tunisia has been going through a deep political crisis since the coup by President Kais Saied on July 25, 2020, which suspended the Parliament dominated by Ennahdha and dismissed the government, shaking the fledgling democracy in the country, the cradle of the Arab Spring.
