After the recent crisis alarm, plans are being made again in the Tölzer Unverpackt shop on Hindenburgstrasse.

They should secure a future for the "Ois ohne".

Bad Tölz – A few weeks ago, the Tölz unpackaged shop sounded the alarm: If sales in the shop, which was founded three years ago, did not improve, it was said that the closure would be in the offing.

The response to the reporting in the Tölzer Kurier was great - and part of this was also reflected in the increased number of customers.

In the meantime, board member Andreas Munkert and his colleagues are again looking to the future with optimism.

"We're confident we can do it," he says.

Unpacked shop in Bad Tölz concentrates on core competence

Precisely because they believe in a future for "Ois without" they have now invested in a redesign of the shop on Hindenburgstrasse.

By moving the cash register from the middle of the room to the edge, everything now seems more open and spacious.

"We whitewashed the walls and switched to light-colored shelves," says Munkert.

In addition, the Management Board team has also given some thought to content-related changes.

The latest news about the crisis in the unpackaged shop also led to a lot of feedback from customers and in particular from the around 150 members of the cooperative.

Take this now.

Part of the range should be cheaper

"We want to concentrate more on our core competence," says Munkert.

And that is: products without packaging.

Customers wished to have some frequently requested products offered at a lower price.

"That's why we're going to add a few basic foods to the range that are a little cheaper but maybe not quite as regional," says Munkert.

"But that doesn't mean that the products will then come from China."

"We also want to offer something to those who say: 'We also want to shop plastic-free, but we can't necessarily afford organic.'

In general, however, she emphasizes that the unpackaged shop is not more expensive than the local organic shops.

“In fact, people are often surprised at how little they pay here,” she says.

“Muesli, rice and legumes tend to be cheap here.

You should give us a chance and take a look around.” In order to strengthen the plastic-free idea, “it wouldn’t do us any good to offer exclusive goods that nobody can afford,” says Munkert.

Lunch in the unpackaged shop is discontinued

Incidentally, in the wake of the recent general price increases, the “Ois ohne” has not yet made its products more expensive, says Munkert when asked.

However, if suppliers increase prices, it will probably become unavoidable to pass this on to customers.

Meanwhile, the “Ois ohne” would like to stop offering a “lunch menu”.

The dishes, which are currently still available every Tuesday, are “only very selectively” in demand.

"We don't reach the broad masses with it," says Munkert.

Unpackaged shop Bad Tölz relies on pick-up stations

In order to get its products to women and men, the unpackaged shop would also like to use pick-up stations in the region in the future and has Bad Wiessee, Tegernsee and Lenggries in mind first.

The team would like feedback from customers who are interested in such a central pick-up point.

In addition, the team plans to reach out more to companies and motivate them to give their employees sustainable gifts, such as candy in jars that can be reused afterwards.

In order for the "Ois ohne" to have a future, current customer interest must of course last longer, says Sabine Riesch.

"It's important for Bad Tölz to have a shop like this here," says Munkert.

After all, Tölz presents itself "as a green, sustainable city" and: "There used to be an unpackaged shop here than in Frankfurt."
