Robert Jeffress, TV Evangelist:

"Thank God for President Donald J. Trump!"

The Christian right in the US is celebrating the Supreme Court's decision on abortion.

On Friday, the US Supreme Court overturned the nearly 50-year-old Roe v. Wade precedent that gave women the right to choose whether to terminate a pregnancy.

Robert Jeffress, television evangelist:

“The main reason 'Roe' was overturned is that in 2016 evangelicals teamed up with conservative Catholics and elected a president who kept his promise and appointed three pro-life conservative justices to the Supreme Court. «

The ex-President Trump, who was so praised, also insisted on commenting on the decision in front of supporters:

Donald Trump, Former US President:

“Yesterday the court handed down a victory for the Constitution.

A victory for the rule of law and above all: a victory for life.

This breakthrough is the answer to the prayers of millions and millions of people.

For decades the prayers continued.

They have prayed for decades and decades.

And now those prayers have been answered.

For generations of Americans in the pro-life movement as well as constitutional conservatives.

Your unconditional love, sacrifice and dedication have finally been fully rewarded.

Congratulations."

Liberal US celebrities were appalled by the threat of restrictions on women's self-determination.

Pop singer Taylor Swift wrote on Twitter:

"I'm terrified that we're really at this point now - that after so many decades of people fighting for the rights of women on their own bodies, today's decision takes away those rights from us."

Actress Halle Berry also responded:

"I'm beside myself!

What the Supreme Court did is BULLSHIT.

Something must be done about it!

Firearms have more rights than women.

Stop this war on women and keep your laws off our bodies.

We have to block ourselves together and must not accept that!

We can't just write about it on the internet.

We have to DO SOMETHING about it.«

Ex-President Obama wrote:

“Today the Supreme Court has not only reversed nearly 50 years of jurisprudence, it has exposed the most personal decision anyone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues.

This attacks essential freedoms of millions of Americans.«

On Twitter, many, such as Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, also made fun of a statement by Trump's former press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Republican nominee for gubernatorial Arkansas:

"We will make sure a child is just as safe in a womb as in the classroom."

At the end of May, an 18-year-old shot 19 elementary school children in their classroom in Texas.

A day before his abortion verdict, the conservative majority in the Supreme Court relaxed gun laws nationwide.
