Since Queen Elizabeth II stepped down, there are often several weeks between her public appearances.

When the monarch finally steps back in front of the camera, the joy of seeing you again is all the greater.

In Scotland, the good-humoured Queen is celebrated.

EDINBURGH – Queen Elizabeth II (96) has retired to Windsor Castle in recent months and only leaves her residence for appointments that are really close to her heart and are high on her agenda.

This also includes “Holyrood Week” in Scotland.

A week dedicated to the crown: Queen Elizabeth II opens "Holyrood Week"

The royal family only announced at short notice that Queen Elizabeth II will travel to the north for this year's "Holyrood Week".

Every year at the end of June, the regent and her family make their way to Scotland to celebrate the country and its people for a week.

The Queen will be staying at Holyrood Palace, her official Scottish residence, during her visit.

Queen Elizabeth drove up to Edinburgh to ring in the royal week with the "Ceremony of the Keys".

The Queen was presented with the keys to the city, which, as is traditional, entrusted them to the representatives of the Scottish capital.

At her first public appearance after the big celebration of the Queen's jubilee in London, the 96-year-old had to support herself on her walking stick, but this did not dampen her good mood.

Queen Elizabeth II simply smiles at worries about her health

With a beaming smile on her face, Queen Elizabeth braved the dark clouds over Holyrood Palace.

The followers of the royal family were also enthusiastic about their performance accompanied by Prince Edward (58) and Countess Sophie (57).

Positive comments like "It's a great pleasure to see her like this" or "She looks fabulous" can be found under the short clip that the royal family shared on Instagram.

The fact that Queen Elizabeth herself opened the "Holyrood Week" in Scotland triggered a wave of enthusiasm among the fans.

The fact that the monarch is doing better and feels fitter is not only proven by her trip to Scotland.

As a source close to her recently revealed, Queen Elizabeth is back in the saddle after a long break from riding.
