That was an overwhelming willingness to help: 700 people came to the Aufkirchen clubhouse on Saturday for a smear test - in the hope of being the right stem cell donor for Regina Springer from Farchach, who was suffering from blood cancer.

Aufkirchen

– On Saturday, a line formed in front of the Aufkirchner clubhouse, so big was the rush to the registration campaign of the German Bone Marrow Donation (DKMS).

700 people wanted to be included in the DKMS file to help Regina Springer.

The 42-year-old Farchacher, mother of two sons, cook in the kindergarten and chairperson of the parish council, suffers from lymphatic leukemia.

She is currently undergoing the second chemotherapy, but a stem cell donation is necessary for complete healing (we reported).

From someone who is very similar to her in some genetic traits, from a genetic twin.

It will only be clear in three or four weeks whether this twin has found each other.

Regina Springer's friend Andrea Schwenski organized the campaign in Aufkirchen together with Andrea Leitner and Bettina Völker.

The willingness to help overwhelmed the organizers.

"It all came together," says Schwenski.

“That was unbelievable.” In total there were around 40 volunteers on Saturday.

It was busy.

To bake about 70 cakes that those waiting for their cheek swabs and potential donors received in return for a donation.

That was well calculated: "65 cakes went away," says Schwenski.

Sandra Deuflhardt took care of this part of the organization.

Helpers from the Bachhausen fire brigade showed people how to park and where to register.

The use of the Berger firefighters Udo Wieser and Matthias Berger was remarkable.

"They organized the shuttle bus," reports Schwenski.

Because at the same time on Saturday, MTV celebrated its 100th anniversary on its Lohacker site in Berg.

There were also many firefighters there - at the weekend, in addition to the anniversary of the MTV, 150 years of the fire brigade and 1200 years of Berg were celebrated.

Wieser and Berger transported MTV guests who wanted to register up the mountain to the clubhouse and back again, stylishly with the fire department's multi-purpose vehicle, "the Elfer", as Schwenski explains.

The Oskar-Maria-Graf elementary school also made a contribution.

With her charity run on Friday morning, she gave the go-ahead for the registration campaign.

For each lap, the runners receive a certain amount from sponsors in their private circles.

It was still unclear yesterday how much was collected.

Schwenski was also unable to quantify the amount of donations on Saturday.

The great willingness to help and the great support have almost "inspired" them, says Schwenski.

“It gives such a good vibe.

And it's nice feedback for Regina.” Because now the waiting begins.

The cheek swabs from Aufkirchen are evaluated in Ulm.

Results can be expected in three to four weeks, says Schwenski.

And with the message whether there is a suitable donor for Regina Springer.

"It would be a success if a donor turned up for another patient," she says.

"If only one in the world benefits, the campaign has been more than worth it."
