An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Taiwan today, but no casualties or damage were reported.

The China Earthquake Networks Center stated that the tremor struck off the coast of southern "Pingdong" province and was at a depth of 20 kilometers.

Taiwan is located near the intersection of two tectonic plates in the South China Sea and is prone to earthquakes, where more than 100 people were killed in a devastating earthquake in the south of the country in 2016.
