After the Israelis' attempts to save her life: The Court of Appeals in Abu Dhabi accepted the Israeli request that she was arrested in Dubai with drugs and overturned the death sentence imposed on her.
Fida Kiwan, 40, a resident of Haifa, who was caught with half a kilogram of cocaine in Dubai, was sentenced to death about two and a half months ago. An apartment was searched and quantities of cocaine were found for trafficking. As in some cases in the UAE, also in the present case the court is expected to replace the death penalty with a long prison sentence.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that they are aware of the case and are handling it through the Department of Israelis Abroad in the Consular Division and the Israeli missions in the country.
Law firm Tami Tolmo, who worked on the case in collaboration with officials in the Emirates, responded: "There is justice in Abu Dhabi. "It is clear that the death penalty will be abolished. We thank Adv. Ahmad al-Mazrui, who accompanied us in the court proceedings in Abu Dhabi."
