An angry customer shoots two Subway employees in Atlanta because “there was too much mayonnaise on their sandwich”

A 26-year-old woman died and another 24-year-old woman is in critical condition. The shooting broke out because "something about the sandwich bothered her so much that she decided to take her anger out on the two employees," police said.

An employee at a Subway fast-food restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia, was shot to death and another was injured Sunday after a customer angry that there was too much mayonnaise on his sandwich shot both of them, according to police and the Shop's owner.

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 6:00 p.m.

The incident occurred just blocks from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United.

"The suspect walked into the restaurant, ordered a sandwich, and something about the sandwich bothered him so much that he decided to take his anger out on the two employees," Atlanta Deputy Police Chief Charles Hampton Jr. told reporters during a news conference.

The restaurant's co-owner, Willie Glenn, said the customer was angry because there was "too much mayonnaise on his sandwich," according to The Associated Press.

The two employees were taken to a hospital for medical treatment, police said.

A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead.

The other victim, a 24-year-old woman, is in critical condition, Hampton said.

The seriously injured woman's 5-year-old son was in the restaurant at the time of the shooting

, according to police.

Neither of the two victims has been identified.

The suspect, who was only identified by authorities as a 36-year-old man, was arrested Sunday night after a tip from the public.

"This was a very tragic situation that didn't have to happen," Hampton said.

“It breaks my heart to know that someone has the audacity to pull a gun and shoot someone just because there was too much mayonnaise on a sandwich,” restaurant co-owner Willie Glenn told The Associated Press.
