Arab Report: Israel Requests Clarification from Egypt on Prisoners' Situation in Gaza Israel today

2022-06-28T10:20:40.844Z

Following Hamas 'remarks about the deterioration of one of the prisoners, a Palestinian newspaper reported that Egypt may seek general clarifications • Hamas' military wing claimed to provide proof of its claim

Palestinian sources told the Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds that talks had taken place between Israel and Egypt regarding Hamas' announcement yesterday in which it was alleged that the medical condition of one of the Israeli prisoners held in Gaza had deteriorated.

According to the report, Israel asked Egyptian intelligence to try and obtain clarifications from Hamas about the fate of the prisoners.

It was reported that Egypt may turn to Hamas for general clarifications on what is happening, and to examine the possibility of advancing towards the end of this case, which has been stuck since 2014. The report has no confirmation from other sources.

In a statement yesterday, Hamas' military wing said the organization would provide alleged evidence to support the claim of the deterioration of one of the Israeli prisoners, but so far the organization has not published anything to confirm this.

Hamas is interested in initiating a prisoner exchange deal with Israel, in which hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons will be released, and the latest announcements and reports to the media in this regard are part of the organization's desire to return this issue to Israel's media and internal agenda.

Following the publication last night of Hamas' claims, the Prime Minister's Office stated: "Hamas is proving tonight that it is a cynical and criminal terrorist organization, which holds mentally injured civilians in violation of all international conventions and laws, as well as the bodies of IDF martyrs.

Hamas is responsible for the plight of the captured civilians.

The State of Israel will continue its efforts, mediated by Egypt, to restore the captives and the missing, with responsibility and determination.

In Israel, only Hamas is held responsible for the plight of civilians Hisham a-Sayed and Abra Mengistu.
