The Government of Mexico has announced this Tuesday that at least two compatriots are hospitalized, after the discovery of a trailer with abandoned migrants in San Antonio, Texas.

Both are hospitalized at the Texas Vista Medical Center, hospitalized after presenting symptoms of dehydration, according to a publication by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard.

The preliminary balance of the tragedy is 50 dead, including 22 Mexicans, seven Guatemalans and two Hondurans, according to the Mexican authorities.

A high number of victims have not yet been identified.

16 people have been reported taken to hospitals in the area, including four children.

It is the greatest migratory tragedy in memory on American soil, according to the press and local authorities.

It is not clear how many people were inside the truck, so the information flows slowly.

Mexican authorities have said that the priority is to support the families of the deceased and follow up on those hospitalized.

A team from the Attorney General's Office will travel to the area of the incident to clarify crimes that have been committed in Mexican territory.

“They get medical attention now.

I will inform you as soon as we confirm identities”, said Ebrard, who deleted a previous tweet, in which the voter credentials of two people identified as hospitalized appeared.

Governor Miguel Barbosa has said it is likely that at least two of the deceased migrants are from the state of Puebla, but has not provided their names.

Both were from Izúcar de Matamoros, according to the president, who cited the Pies Secos organization.

"Let's follow up on this circumstance and if that's the case, let's put all the institutional possibilities for repatriation," Barbosa said at a press conference.

The National Institute of Migration has announced that it will assume the expenses to bring and watch over the bodies of the deceased in Mexico.

The Mexican consul in San Antonio, Rubén Minutti, visits the hospitals to advance in the identification of the victims.

“We are waiting to corroborate the nationality data,” Minutti commented in a recorded message.

The Mexican authorities have indicated that they are in permanent communication with their counterparts in the United States and Central America.

“It is a tremendous misfortune”, lamented the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

"The forensic experts estimate that the identification of the bodies will take place in approximately three days," said the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Minister Mario Búcaro has said that matches will be sought in the database of the National Population Registry based on fingerprints.

"The probable cause of death was heat stroke from being overcrowded," added the Guatemalan government.

“It is inexcusable that innocent lives continue to be lost due to migrant smuggling,” the president, Alejandro Giammattei, has condemned.

Guatemalan authorities are tracking a 23-year-old girl, although they have not yet revealed her name.

"She is hospitalized and is progressing favorably," the consulate in Del Río reported.

Her family has already been notified that she is stable.

Enrique Reina, Foreign Minister of Honduras, has said that the representatives of his country have already contacted forensic experts to advance in the identification and repatriation of the bodies.
