Sustainability is a top priority in Berglern: the facility is the only primary school in the district of Erding to have the Fairtrade seal, and has been for a number of years.

The certificate was recently renewed and there was a celebration and a delicious breakfast.

Berglern – Rector Sabine Hoffmann has been at the Berglern elementary school for around five years and emphasized: “Fair trade has always been important to me, and I also take part in Engagement Global”, a company that promotes development initiatives.

Hoffmann also wanted to bring this profile into schools and met with enthusiasm there.

All the teachers and the children in the six classes are working hard.

The Ministry of Education is currently running the "Everyday Skills" project week in the area of sustainability, in which the Berglerner is also taking part.

Hoffmann emphasizes: “We live in Berglern, but the world is huge.

It is important to teach our children that others their age are not doing so well.”

At the celebrations for the extension of the seal, District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer came by as patron.

He also confirmed that not all children in the world had a happy childhood: "Elsewhere in the world they already have to work, fortunately that's forbidden here." The elementary school students would show great responsibility by participating: "You help that there is less exploitation and be a pioneer in our district.”

Berglern's Mayor Anton Scherer was proud of his school: "It's great that you're so enthusiastic about the matter." School Director Robert Leiter also congratulated the award: "You don't just get it for snapping your fingers.

There is a lot of work and a willingness to learn behind it.”

There are various requirements for getting the seal: for example, a so-called compass within the school, where only fair products are offered.

The treatment of fair trade in the classroom and additional topic-related activities are further prerequisites.

In Berglern, for example, this is the "fair Santa Claus".

Then the Erdinger Raiffeisenbank, in the person of Josef Nunberger and Manuel Schmidt, handed over a 250-euro donation, and the rector said the words that probably went down best with the students: “The outdoor buffet is waiting for you.” There they had Members of the parents' council lovingly prepared a rich table, of course exclusively with food from the fair trade trade.

Not only the children but also the guests of honor enjoyed that on this hot day in Berglern.
