A subway employee was killed and another was fatally injured after an argument between the two employees and a dissatisfied customer ended in a fatal shooting incident.
The reason for the disaster: The customer thought they had put too much mayonnaise in the sandwich.
The violent incident took place on Sunday evening (US time) at a branch of the well-known sandwich chain in the city of Atlanta in the state of Michigan. Police said the killer, a 36-year-old Atlanta resident whose identity has not yet been revealed as a result of the ongoing investigation, was arrested without resistance after police were able to locate him.
"The shooter went into a restaurant and ordered a sandwich, which he apparently did not like. He got very upset and decided to vent his anger over the facts on the spot," according to Hampton.
"It frustrates me greatly that a man has decided that his weapon is the right solution to settle a dispute over a sandwich."
Wiley Glenn, one of the restaurant's owners, told a local TV channel that "the fact that a person has the audacity to shoot someone because they put too much mayonnaise in a sandwich breaks my heart."
Subway, which specializes in fresh sandwiches and is considered a relatively healthy alternative compared to its burgers-focused competitors, is the world’s largest fast food chain.
It currently has about 43,000 branches in more than a hundred countries.
