The partnership between Berg and Phalsbourg turned 30 last year.

At the celebration of the 1200th local anniversary in Berg, both mayors emphasized the importance of this partnership.

Berg – Anyone who has a birthday can count on presents.

In the case of the municipality of Berg and its 1200th anniversary, it was a bit different: Mayor Rupert Steigenberger brought a gift to special guests at the ceremony.

The delegation from Berg's partner community Phalsbourg left Lake Starnberg yesterday Monday with a highly symbolic sculpture.

Both mayors underscored the importance of the alliance, which turned 30 last year, and their will to nurture it.

Steigenberger presented his colleague Jean-Louis Madelaine with a bronze peace dove by the Landshut artist Richard Hillinger.

"I've thought about what's most important for us these days," said Steigenberger.

Surely that is peace.

The idea behind the dove is "that it flies on the longest peace road in the world and carries peace," said the mayor.

“This dove in particular should land in Berg and Phalsbourg again and again over the next few years, in order to encourage us to deal with the topic of peace again and again.

It is only to be hoped that one day what France and Germany achieved in the 1960s will also be achieved in Ukraine and Russia.”

Visit of the French great honor for the community of Berg

Phalsbourg's Mayor Madelaine thanked and also thanked for the invitation to Berg.

This is how you can revive the friendship after a two-year Corona break.

Madelaine left no doubt that a friendship had grown out of the partnership with the mountain people.

"I would like to continue and strengthen this friendship," he said in German.

Steigenberger had previously emphasized that the French visit was a great honour.

In Phalsbourg there were also celebrations at the weekend: the 70th anniversary of the Boy Scouts and the 200th birthday of the Phalsbourg author Émile Erckmann, according to Steigenberger the Oskar Maria Graf of the Phalsbourgers.

Jean Riehl and Josef Ücker signed the partnership agreement between the municipalities in 1991 and vowed to "contribute in the spirit of peace to secure a happy future in a united Europe".

First visit for Mayor Jean-Louis Madelaine in Bavaria

Like Steigenberger, Madelaine has only been in office for around two years.

For the 68-year-old, it was the first visit to Bavaria, which he had only got to know while driving through.

The former tax official speaks good German and relies on the responsible association, the "Friends of Berg", to maintain the partnership with Berg.

Although there has been a new chairman since the spring, board members Elisabeth Janes and Pierrette Spielmann are continuing and stand for continuity.

Both were in Berg with their husbands Charles Janes and Jacky Spielmann at the weekend.

They lived in the holiday apartments of EUW councilor Peter Sebald, they met old acquaintances such as former mayor Rupert Monn and his wife Juliane and spent the anniversary on Sunday having fun at the celebrations on the MTV site.
