China today reiterated its strong opposition to any form of official exchanges between the United States and the Chinese region of Taiwan.
"There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is a part of it," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a press conference in response to an inquiry about the so-called US-Taiwan initiative on the 21st century trade, calling on the United States to strictly adhere to the one-China principle. The three joint statements between China and the United States, in addition to stopping sending wrong signals to the forces of the so-called (Taiwan independence).
Zhao called on the United States to immediately stop any form of official contacts with Taiwan to avoid further undermining Sino-US relations and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Zhao warned the authority of the Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan not to carry out any separatist activity or to seek the so-called independence of Taiwan by relying on US support, otherwise things will come to a disastrous end.
