Does the construction of another bridge over the Peitnach make sense from a traffic point of view or not?

A survey of randomly selected Bachfeld residents on their mobility behavior should provide information about this.

The course of the investigation is now clear.

Peiting – Since the beginning of the year there has been a heated argument in Peiting about a bridge that doesn't even exist yet.

As early as 1973, the connection between Peitnachstrasse and Tannheimer Strasse was a hot topic in the municipal council.

At that time, the committee decided first for and later against the construction.

In the past, there have always been considerations of completing the bridging.

However, it never became concrete - until the end of 2021 Mayor Peter Ostenrieder had the project written into the financial plan.

Since then, supporters and critics have been engaged in a heated debate about the usefulness of the project.

Some hope that traffic will be relieved in the town centre, while others fear increasing strain on the previously quiet residential and local recreation area.

At the end of April, it became apparent how much the topic was also dividing the municipal council.

With a majority of just one vote, it was decided to continue with the project.

Associated with this was the commissioning of a mobility behavior survey of the Bachfeld residents, which is intended to provide data for the final decision.

The engineering office Ingevost, which has examined the traffic in Peiting several times in the past, was awarded the contract.

Planner Christian Fahnberg described exactly how the investigation will proceed yesterday at a press conference.

Selected households are sent multi-page questionnaires

The survey is carried out by post, which means that each selected household is sent a multi-page questionnaire.

A total of 400 households in the area south of the junction to Bachfeldstraße and west of Peitnach have been identified from the data from the residents' registration office in the past few weeks, explained Fahnberg.

Post only gets half of it.

According to the expert, this random sample, which took household sizes and streets into account, is sufficient for a representative extrapolation with an expected return of 50 percent of the questionnaires.

According to the mayor, the costs for the investigation range between 12,000 and 15,000 euros.

Those who were selected should have already found a letter from the mayor in their mailbox.

But things will only get really serious in the coming week, when the survey documents will be sent out from July 4th.

These are divided into three parts.

The household questionnaire asks about the number of people living in the household and the number and type of vehicles used.

In addition, those surveyed can comment on the traffic situation in the area in general and express their opinion specifically on the planned Peitnach Bridge.

On the key date, all trips made by each household member are recorded

The personal data sheet, which asks for personal data of each household member such as age, occupation or the existence of a driver's license, is followed by what is probably the most interesting sheet for the evaluation - the way sheet.

Every member of the household from the age of ten should use this to record all the trips made on Thursday, July 7th – regardless of whether on foot, by car or by public transport.

The purpose is also recorded, i.e. whether the respondent went to work or to go shopping, for example, as well as the exact destination, the time and the distance traveled.

Ostenrieder assured that all information would be treated as strictly confidential and in compliance with data protection regulations.

It is also important that the questionnaires are filled out

if you don't leave the house or aren't even in Peiting on the deadline.

This group of people is particularly important, as otherwise the extrapolation would be falsified, stressed Fahnberg.

In order to ensure that as many households as possible take part, everyone who does not return the documents will be contacted again.

There will be a second deadline for them on Thursday, July 21st.

If you don't want this, you can simply put your empty return envelope in the mailbox.

The survey is due to be evaluated in August.

Fahnberg wants to present the results to the market council as early as September.

It should be an exciting session.
