Cologne was hit by the Corona summer wave.
The incidence has recently risen sharply again, and at the same time intensive care beds are becoming scarce.
Numbers at a glance.
Cologne – In contrast to previous years, the 2022 corona pandemic will not be taking a “summer break”.
Instead of declining numbers, there has recently been an increase in incidence – and significantly so.
There is also a clear upward trend in the corona numbers in Cologne.
The incidence is slowly approaching the 1000 mark again.
The summer wave feared by Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach is now in full swing.
This is the current situation in the cathedral city.

NRW and DIVI, as of June 27, 2022
Since the end of May, the corona numbers have also been increasing significantly in Cologne, reports 24RHEIN.
While the 7-day incidence on May 30 was 211, there are now 770.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants (as of June 27, 2022).
The days before, the value was even over 800. However, the accuracy of the values is questionable.
The municipal health department suspects that the number of unreported corona infections in Cologne is “many times higher than the number of cases actually reported”.
There are only very few intensive care beds left in Cologne, which some corona patients also need.

Cologne: Corona numbers are increasing – will that soon have consequences?
In view of the past, the increasing number of corona in Cologne quickly raises the question of the possible consequences.
According to the current status, there are no direct measures that are being taken due to the many new infections in the cathedral city.
Because the current corona rules for North Rhine-Westphalia no longer provide a mechanism for this.
However, the possibility of corona tightening in Cologne in the near future cannot be completely ruled out.
On the one hand, there is still the theoretical possibility of hotspot regulation, even if the old state government had previously rejected it.
On the other hand, the current Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia expires on Thursday (June 30).
In view of the rapidly increasing numbers across the state, there could possibly be an adjustment to the corona rules, even if that is currently considered unlikely.
