The areas planted with the cotton crop in the lands under the supervision of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest in Hama Governorate amounted to 387 hectares out of the total planned plan for the current season, which amounts to 1055 hectares.
The Director of Plant Wealth in the Authority, Engineer Wafiq Zarouf, told SANA reporter that the condition of the cotton crop is good, and a number of irrigations necessary to irrigate it have been secured, pointing out that these areas are few and do not correspond to the reality of growing the crop in the Al-Ghab region, which produced more than 30% before the terrorist war on Syria. from local production.
Zarouf pointed out that cotton cultivation has declined for several reasons, the most important of which is the high cost of production requirements such as seeds, harvest wages and fuel, in addition to the fact that it needs many irrigations and that its production cycle is long, explaining that the government’s recent decision to raise the price of receiving cotton from farmers will contribute to increasing the cultivated areas during the next season.
The cultivation of the cotton crop is concentrated in the areas of Ain al-Krum, Salhab, Horat Amourin, al-Asharnah, Nahr al-Bared, and Suqaylabiyah.
