Carefree bathing fun in gas-heated water is currently more than questionable from the point of view of several city council members.

However, a decision to at least reduce the use of gas was not made at the most recent meeting.

On cooler days, gas heats the pool in the Miesbach warm outdoor pool.

Is that justifiable after the second crisis level was declared in the gas emergency plan?

The city council disagrees.

Miesbach - The agenda item "Unforeseen, wishes, applications" forms the end of each city council meeting in Miesbach.

It is an opportunity for the members to ask questions, submit short reports or – as happened recently – to spontaneously address topics that arise at short notice.

For Markus Seemüller (FWG), the declaration of the second crisis level in the national gas emergency plan by Economics Minister Robert Habeck on Thursday was reason enough to talk about Miesbach's opportunities to make a contribution.

"We have a new situation with gas," Seemüller stated.

"Grossly negligent": question about gas heating of the outdoor pool triggers discussion in Miesbach

That is why he not only called for a quick response to an investor who wants to set up regenerative local heating in Miesbach, but also to reconsider heating the municipal warm outdoor pool with gas.

Also read the comment on the topic: vote in the city council uncooperative and undemocratic.

"Heating the bathroom with gas is grossly negligent," he stated, pointing out that the first companies were no longer able to produce.

"It's about saving every possible cubic meter of gas." The previous decision to heat the bathroom with gas until the renovation is no longer tenable in his opinion.

Paul Fertl (SPD) joined this initiative: "We should correct ourselves." Now in midsummer you can turn off the gas;

it is dispensable.

Water temperature already lowered - "But if we don't heat any more, you will notice it"

According to the head of the building yard, Jürgen Fischer, the basic temperature was lowered to 21 degrees a few weeks ago.

"But if we don't heat any more, you'll notice that," he pointed out.

In warm phases, the absorber system brings the thermal energy into the water.

"So the gas doesn't run continuously." However, gas is important to bring the water masses up to temperature at the beginning.

Family officer Malin Friese (Greens), on the other hand, saw it as reasonable to offer colder water with a view to the children's pool: "The children don't sit in it that long either."

Managing director Gerhard Führer pointed out obstacles to the general desire to perhaps decide on a change.

The problem: It is not so easy to decide if the topic is not on the agenda.

This time three council members were missing: Petra Six (CSU), Kick van Walbeek (Greens) and Andreas Reischl (FWG).

Nevertheless, a vote is possible, said Führer.

This first requires a unanimous decision that a vote is to be taken, and then the vote on the matter itself.

Even the bathroom officer sees the need to act: "I see what's going on in the world"

Even Erhard Pohl (CSU), who as a bathroom consultant is known to put his heart and soul into the bathroom, spoke out in favor of at least reducing gas consumption: “Two hearts are beating in my chest.

I am also a realist and I see what is going on in the world.”

On the one hand you have a warm bath, on the other hand the general situation is worrying.

"I think the population understands that the temperature is no longer relevant." As a compromise, Pohl suggested lowering the base temperature to 20 degrees.

"Because at 18 degrees it would no longer be a bath."

It was no longer possible to determine whether this compromise would have won a majority.

Because in the first vote, Verena Schlier (CSU) and Florian Hupfauer (FDP) spoke out against voting on the topic without explanation or warning.

Discussion about gas heating of the outdoor pool: Applications for the next meeting are already available

The topic is not off the table yet.

As already announced at the meeting, Seemüller has submitted an application for the next meeting of the city council on Thursday, July 28th.

It says: "The additional heating of the outdoor pool with gas is no longer justifiable against the background of the current supply situation and also from the point of view of climate protection."

This resulted in two resolutions: On the one hand, the city council should repeal the decision of May 25, 2022 to heat the outdoor pool with gas.

In a second resolution, the city council should speak out in favor of "abstaining from additional heating of the outdoor pool with gas immediately and until further notice".
