The group of democratic economic powers (G7) supports the idea of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) for an international climate club.

They support the goals of such an "open and cooperative" club and want to work with partners to set it up by the end of 2022, according to the final draft for the final declaration of the G7 summit in Elmau, Bavaria.

It was presented to the German Press Agency on Tuesday.

With the climate club, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to make the leading industrial nations pioneers against global warming.

The three-day meeting ends with a final declaration and a press conference by host Olaf Scholz.

The funds are intended to help maintain basic government services in the war-torn country, such as paying pensions and the salaries of government employees.

Ukraine had asked for around 5 billion euros each for three months.

After the three months, further support could be necessary, it was said at the time.

+++ 17.06:

After an approved demonstration not far from the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau, the police temporarily arrested six demonstrators.

After the end of their meeting in the security area, the demonstrators sat on the ground and blocked escape routes, the police said on Monday.

Investigations were now underway against them on suspicion of coercion.

Those provisionally arrested were among a group of 50 selected G7 opponents who had been authorized to protest in the security area of Schloss Elmau.

The demonstrators were taken to the security area by bus.

While all other G7 opponents got back on the buses after a small rally, the six people arrested afterwards refused.

They were then carried by police officers from the rescue routes.

The protests against the G7 summit have been extremely peaceful so far.

Even at the weekend's large demonstrations in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, there were only minor clashes.

The G7 meeting at Schloss Elmau is protected by a large contingent of 18,000 police officers.

G7 summit: Joint efforts for climate protection

+++ 16:34:

At their summit in Elmau, the G7 countries and their guests agreed on joint efforts to protect the climate.

The federal government, as the host of the summit meeting, published a corresponding statement on Monday afternoon.

The supporters want to push the switch to climate neutrality, i.e. to get to a point where they no longer emit greenhouse gases than can be bound again.

At the same time, they want to ensure energy security.

Behind the declaration are the G7 countries Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Great Britain, the USA and the European Union as well as Argentina, India, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa.

The almost two-page paper found a mixed response from environmentalists.

States reaffirmed their support for the goal agreed at the 2015 climate conference in Paris to keep global warming below 2 degrees compared to pre-industrial levels and preferably below 1.5 degrees.

Renewable energies are to be expanded and coal is to be used less and less, whereby they want to do justice to both environmental and social aspects.

G7 summit: Selenskyj calls for tougher sanctions

+++ 3.10 p.m .:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has called on the G7 group to tighten sanctions against Russia and to cap prices for Russian oil.

"For us, it is important for the G7 countries to have a unified position on the sanctions," Zelenskyy wrote in the Telegram online service on Monday.

The punitive measures would have to be further tightened "by limiting the prices for oil that the aggressor exports".

About a week ago it became known that the United States was negotiating a price cap for oil with friendly countries in order to limit Russia's oil export revenues.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said it was about tightening sanctions on Russia and pushing down the price of oil.

In this way, more oil could reach the international market.

Belarus is a close ally of Russia.

G7 countries pledge aid to Ukraine “for as long as necessary”.

+++ 1:01 p.m .:

The leading democratic economic powers have promised Ukraine their help “for as long as necessary” in view of the Russian war of aggression.

"We will continue to provide financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support and stand by Ukraine for as long as necessary," the G7 summit said in a statement on Ukraine on Monday.

Among other things, the heads of state and government held out the prospect of tightening sanctions against Russia.

The focus should be on the defense industry and the technology sector.

"We are determined to reduce Russia's revenue, including from gold," the paper said.

No further details were given.

The G7 once again called on Russia to end the war - and warned the country against using chemical, biological or nuclear weapons.

This would be unacceptable and would have serious consequences, the paper said.

They also called on Russia to stop attacks on agricultural infrastructure immediately and unconditionally and to open the ports for grain exports.

"Negotiations are currently going on day and night," said Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday in the

ZDF morning magazine

.

The topic is causing the leading democratic economic powers great concern and they want to help.

Money should also be used to ensure that hunger crises are avoided.

Concrete financial commitments from the G7 countries are expected on Monday.

Ukraine and Russia are the world's largest wheat exporters.

They usually cover almost a third of global demand - but because Russia is currently blocking the Ukrainian ports, a lot of grain cannot be exported.

According to the World Food Program, 50 million people worldwide are on the brink of starvation.

The UN organization assesses the situation in Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan and Somalia as catastrophic.

They also agreed to pass on revenue from increased tariffs on Russian exports to Ukraine as financial aid.

New tariffs on Russian goods should be used "to help Ukraine and ensure Russia pays the price for its war," the US government said.

According to the information, there is also progress on the US plan to impose a global price cap on the purchase of Russian oil.

The G7 group is in the “final consultations” on this topic.

+++ 10.08 a.m .:

The measures were aimed, among other things, against military production and supply chains, the White House announced on Monday on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Bavaria.

+++ 9:21 a.m .:

 According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), the G7 summit will not yet be able to decide on a joint delivery stop for Russian gold.

The question will "also have to be discussed within the European Union," said Scholz on Monday in the

ZDF morning magazine

.

"That's why it's not a matter where the G7 will finally decide." But everyone could rely "on the fact that we are constantly specifying our sanctions".

The G7 members Great Britain, USA, Japan and Canada had announced a ban on the import of Russian gold before the start of the summit on Sunday.

They pointed out that the precious metal is Russia's most important export commodity outside of the energy sector and contributes to the financing of President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine.

A “value-based” alternative to investing in China is needed.

The White House said it was an investment of 600 million euros that will be "mobilized" for the program over the next five years.

Demonstration in München: Proteste vor G7 Treffen in Garmisch-Patenkirchen

Erstmeldung, vom Samstag, 25.

Although Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser was satisfied with the security preparations for the large demo, she also expressed her concerns about a black block and possible participants from the left-wing extremist scene.

She called on all demonstrators "to protest peacefully, not to injure anyone and not to destroy cars or businesses".

Eight police cars were set on fire in Munich on Wednesday (June 22) due to the upcoming G7 summit.
