The discovery of a red deer calf stripped down to the skeleton near the Bauer estate in der Au near Bad Wiessee caused a stir.

For hunters and alpine farmers there is no doubt: it was a wolf that struck.

Bad Wiessee – Tuesday (June 28) and the previous days, this horrific picture spread like wildfire among hunters, farmers and alpine farmers via WhatsApp: A young red deer calf lies in a meadow, filched down to the bone.

In the immediate vicinity of the Bauer in der Au property and thus in the district of the Freising entrepreneur Franz Haslberger, who has just provided a topic of conversation with the administrative court process over his newly opened Saurüssselalm.

The photo is also leaked to the editors of the Tegernseer Zeitung, but Haslberger's personal hunter does not want to comment on the case when asked.

Yes, there is this find, he only confirms.

And that he had to report every "falling game" to the district office.

He couldn't and didn't want to say more.

What Hans Fichtner, chairman of the Bad Wiessee hunting association, says about this is also not very revealing.

He could not confirm that the animal carcass was the work of a wolf, because the calf could also have been sick.

"It's still possible," he admits.

But he has no information from colleagues, "and they would know if there was a wolf on the road."

On the other hand, the Rottach Almbauer Hans Kiening is firmly convinced of the existence of a wolf.

Three dead sheep were recently found on his Ableitenalm south of the Risserkogel in the Wallberg area, only one of three other missing animals has turned up again - "injured and disturbed", as he says.

Kiening complains that the State Office for the Environment (LfU) did not find it necessary to take a DNA sample.

Nevertheless, he is still certain that a wolf is to blame.

Dead red deer calf at the farmer in der Au: "In the morning it was eaten there"

He also knew that on the eve of the incident, which took place during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, 21/22.

June, is said to have happened, nothing of a possibly sick animal could be seen.

"In the morning it was eaten, I was told." He also knew that, probably for fear of further cases, sheep were brought into the valley from the farmer in the Au.

And he also knows that deer have recently stopped daring to leave the forest and enter the meadows.

"For me, these are clear indications," says Kiening.

He even expects the animal to come back.

Would it be possible that it is one and the same wolf that is allegedly responsible for the dead sheep on the Deridenalm?

"A wolf can easily cover 50 kilometers in one night," says District Farmer Anton Maier from Rottach-Egern.

He fears more cases.

"It's not panic and hysteria that we're stirring up, it's pure seriousness." The alpine farmers are very concerned, "but high politics doesn't matter."

A wolf at the farmer in the Au?

Mayor Robert Kühn reacts

Local politicians are already reacting.

"Due to current events", Bad Wiessee's managing director Hilmar Danzinger published the editorial by Mayor Robert Kühn for the August issue of the Bürgerbote on Tuesday.

In it, Kühn writes that he has not felt compelled to comment on the discussion about wolves and alpine farming.

He was not aware of the explosiveness here directly on site.

But now he has come to the conclusion "that the wolf is unacceptable in our region and that shooting permits must therefore be issued urgently," said Kühn in his foreword.

"Because if the wolf settles with us, we will have to say goodbye to traditional alpine farming and thus lose an important cultural landscape,

The case is also known to the Miesbach district office.

Because the find was not reported to the LfU, the cause of the calf's death can no longer be determined, spokeswoman Sophie Stadler reflects the assessment of the lower nature conservation authority.
