Hendrik Wüst remains prime minister in North Rhine-Westphalia: The members of the Düsseldorf state parliament re-elected the CDU politician with 106 votes as head of government.
Wüst's confirmation in office was considered safe because the CDU and Greens have a clear majority in the state parliament with 115 out of 195 seats.
To be elected, at least 98 votes would have been necessary.
Wüst will lead the first black-green coalition in the state.
Both sides signed their 146-page coalition agreement on Monday.
State party conferences of the CDU and Greens had approved it with a large majority at the weekend.
The new cabinet is to be presented and sworn in on Wednesday.
Wüst and the CDU had clearly won the state elections in May, and the Greens had also made massive gains.
Wüst was only elected to succeed Armin Laschet as head of government in North Rhine-Westphalia last October.
Laschet, who was defeated by Olaf Scholz as the Union's candidate for chancellor, had announced his departure from the post of prime minister and a move to Berlin.
Until the state elections in May, Wüst led the old black-yellow coalition.
A continuation of this alliance was not possible due to the election result.
