A team of international researchers has discovered a mysterious circular object resembling a ring of fire near the Milky Way, in a precedent that may be the first of its kind in the history of astronomy.
According to the study, published in the journal Monthly Notes, researchers from Western Sydney University in Australia, using the ESCAP telescope or the Australian Pathfinder Square Kilometer Array, were able to observe a circular object outside the Milky Way, next to what is known as the Large Magellanic Cloud, which is A satellite galaxy of the Milky Way is located at a distance of 160,000 light-years from it.
The researchers suggested that the origin of the discovered object, which they called "rogue", is the remains of a star that exploded about 2200-7100 years ago, and that the remains of its explosion are still expanding until now.
The researchers indicated that the rogue star emerged from the Large Magellanic Cloud millions of years ago and had a companion star orbiting around it, where one of them was in the red giant phase and the second in the white dwarf phase, and because the second has a high attractive force, it pulled the red giant material very quickly.
The researchers added that with the accumulation of the red giant's substance on its dwarf companion quickly and forcefully, rapid and sudden nuclear reactions occur on the surface of the white dwarf, and at some point it explodes, causing the so-called type "IA" supernova.
The researchers expressed their hope to conduct more in-depth and accurate studies to confirm the nature of the rogue supernova, which would be useful in developing scientists' understanding of this type of object.
