The 53-year-old unemployed man was accused of posting inflammatory remarks on Telegram. He was arrested by the police last Sunday (28th). The police later searched his residence and found three sabers and a radio.

The unemployed man was charged with 3 crimes including one or more acts with seditious intent and possession of offensive weapons. He appeared in the West Kowloon Court today (28th), but the defendant is still in hospital and has not appeared in court. The case was temporarily adjourned to the 30th of this month for retrial, and the defendant was handed over to the police.


The defendant, Chen Yonglin, is charged with one or more acts with seditious intent, alleging that between July 20, 2020 and June 10, 2022, he committed one or more acts with seditious intent in Hong Kong, that is, in Hong Kong. Telegram publishes and/or continues to display statements, photos and posters with the intent to: (a) provoke hatred or contempt for the Central Government and/or the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or provoke rebellion; (b) provoke Hong Kong residents to attempt to violate the law (c) incite others to use violence; and/or; (d) incite others to disobey the law or obey lawful orders.

He is also facing two offences of possessing an offensive weapon and possessing an unlicensed radio communication device, alleging that on June 26, 2022, at a unit on the 28th floor of Taikoo Shing Han Palace, 26 Taikoo Shing Road, Hong Kong, possessing offensive weapons Weapons, i.e. 3 sabers; and an apparatus for radio communication, i.e. an AnyTone radio, in possession without a proper licence granted or established by the Chief Executive in Council or the Telecommunications Authority.
