The Court of Appeals in Abu Dhabi today (Tuesday) overturned the death sentence for Israeli Fida as a Yuan accused of drug offenses.
Defense attorneys Tami Ullman and Shadi Saruji welcomed the decision: "There is justice in the advanced legal system in the Emirates. A human decision, and a just one."
Kiwan, a 40-year-old Israeli resident of Haifa, was caught about three months ago with half a kilogram of cocaine in Abu Dhabi.
Fida's brother claimed she was abused and beaten to admit the charges. "She was beaten so she would say things she did not do, because of the beatings she confessed," he said. He claimed a stranger gave her the drug bag.
