Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) speaks of a deficit in the billions of health insurance companies.
So the premiums would have to go up.
Berlin - It had been discussed for a long time, now it's official: the additional contributions for statutory health insurance companies are to increase by 0.3 percentage points to 14.6 percentage points in 2023.
This was announced by Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), as reported by the

and
Reuters
news agencies .
The more than 57 million insured persons therefore have to pay a total of 16.2 percent instead of 14.6 percent of their gross salary for health insurance.
The contribution had never been so high in history.
Lauterbach explained that there is a deficit of around 17 billion euros.
In addition, the federal subsidy should be increased by two billion euros and there is a federal loan of one million euros.
The Minister of Health wants to save money.

Lauterbach blames Spahn for the increase
Karl Lauterbach blames others for the health insurance deficit.
Specifically, the Minister of Health blamed his predecessor for the increase in contributions.
"I essentially inherited this deficit from my predecessor," said the politician, referring to former Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU).
Spahn implemented expensive service expansions and made no reforms.
Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) has already agreed.
