The wife of the President of the State, Michal Herzog, addressed this evening (Tuesday) at the 40th anniversary conference of the 'Sapling' organization of the abortion law in the United States.
"The last few days have shown us once again that civil society has a critical role to play in protecting those who need it, and in the case of the past week it needs it all over the world. Said Herzog.
"We here in Israel are more committed to this, not only because it is our value and moral heritage, and not only because it is the right thing to do, but because it is the only way we can face all the challenges that are right for us. And to reach out after only then will we be able to march our society forward, to a future of success and prosperity. "
Last weekend, the Supreme Court of the United States voted in favor of the decision to delete the ruling "Row v. Wade" and thus the constitutional right to discriminate will be revoked. This means that every state in the United States will be able to decide for itself whether to ban abortions.
On the other hand, earlier this week the Knesset's Labor and Welfare Committee approved new regulations aimed at making it easier for women in the process of terminating a pregnancy.
The two main changes are that termination of pregnancy in the first few weeks will be carried out in the health funds and not in hospitals, and women will be exempted from the obligation to attend before the abortion committee.
The regulations will take effect within three months.
