G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: Söder criticized for outfit - mockery for reception

Original message:

Munich – The G7 summit has been taking place in Elmau since Sunday (June 26).

Before that, the world's most important heads of state traveled to Bavaria.

For example, Markus Söder received US President Joe Biden at the airport.

At the reception of the democrat, CSU boss Söder wore an outfit for which he received a lot of criticism online.

But the rest of the reception committee also caused a stir.

Numerous people in costume lined up as Biden and Söder walked past.

"Germans never dress like this when I come," British journalist Ian Bremmer wrote on Twitter.

"These are Bavarians and they are very special Germans," someone answered him.

"This is how you imagine Germany in the Simpsons," Ersan Mondtag wrote about the photo on Twitter.

"What a cringe moment.

Doesn't Germany want to present itself as a modern country?

Nothing against traditional clothing, but in the right place.

The G7 summit is mainly taking place in Germany,” someone complained in the comments.

Another asks if the picture is really real.

"Yes, unfortunately," one Twitterer replied.

"And we wonder why people in the world think we all walk around in costumes and jackets.

In principle sent by the MP to shape the image of Germans in the world through Bavaria,” said another person.
