The legislative race in the Knesset for dissolution continues today (Tuesday) and alongside the Metro law, the exemption from visas to the United States is now stuck between the opposition and the coalition.
For the time being, the opposition refuses to vote before the dissolution of the Knesset on two laws by Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked regarding the visa waiver program.
These are laws that regulate the United States' access to the databases of those entering and leaving Israel, which are threshold conditions for inclusion in the visa exemption program.
The Likud refuses to include them in the list of agreements of the laws that will be put to the vote before the dissolution of the Knesset, so that the coalition will not be able to present progress in talks on a visa waiver plan ahead of President Biden's visit and during the election campaign.
According to coalition sources, there is a "special urgency" to approve the laws before the dissolution of the Knesset in order to complete the process with the US administration on the Knesset of Israel into the visa waiver program in the coming year.
