The re-elected Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), has called for "constructive cooperation" between the government and the opposition in the new legislative period.

"A culture of dialogue that does not exacerbate disenchantment with politics, but rather gives direction and orientation," said Wüst on Tuesday after being sworn in in the state parliament.

Düsseldorf – Common ideas for NRW should be developed across party lines.

"The magnitude of the challenges requires that we don't get bogged down in party-political minutiae."

Wüst paid particular tribute to the SPD's services to North Rhine-Westphalia.

"What the SPD did for cohesion, not only under Johannes Rau, has made North Rhine-Westphalia the cosmopolitan, diverse state it is today." Brakes released, not only in the last five years".

He shakes hands with all democratic factions to establish a "new culture of dialogue," said Wüst.

"Tough on the matter, but without personal malice and cheap scandals."

Wüst once again named protecting the climate and preserving creation as "the greatest tasks of our time".

Climate and species protection can only succeed if prosperity, social security and justice are guaranteed at the same time.

"We have to give people security so that the transformation to a climate-neutral society is successful." His state government would "always think about social issues," promised Wüst.

"We will reconcile climate protection with industry and its good jobs and social security."

A good six weeks after the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, Wüst had previously been re-elected Prime Minister in the state parliament.

The 46-year-old lawyer had led a black and yellow state government for eight months as the successor to the failed Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.

In the future he will head a government alliance between the CDU and the Greens.
