Penzberg - There was a lot of work done at the city festival in the Penzberg train station.

Volunteers brought the new event room into shape.

At the Penzberg town festival, the citizens were called upon to lend a hand in transforming the station building into a "heart" of culture and encounters.

On Saturday (June 25), some active people worked together with the "Penzberg 2030" initiative and the local monument protection association in the rooms of the former waiting room and warehouse.

Ingo Forstner appeared at the station building first thing in the morning.

With the cordless screwdriver in hand, he kneels between the young carpenters from Hardi Lenk's company and screws the cover plate onto the stage platform.

"I think it's great what's being created here," says Forstner.

The train station is always referred to as the gateway to the city, says the 48-year-old, and now it is being designed "so that it rightly bears this name".

In the back room, whose purpose is still open, Heidelore Stockinger lets the sewing machine whir and makes the stage curtain from a bale of black molleton.

The native of Penzberg brought her own machine with her, an old anchor Gloria.

"I got them for my wedding in 1966," smiles the 77-year-old hobby seamstress.

It's always loud outside.

Oliver Kugel has started his chainsaw and is cutting blocks of thuja, ash and poplar wood.

The material comes from the city's wood storage yard and is combined with old chair backs from the Red Cross inventory to create individual seating furniture.

Meanwhile, Thomas Kapfer-Arrington is dashing from one room to the next, helping with a decision, lend a hand there and constantly answering questions.

In 2018 he played a benefit concert here with his "Trio Nostalgie" and proved that the new usage concept of the "Penzberg 2030" interest group can succeed.

The city's volunteer sponsor was looking for funding and found it in the Free State's "Invigorate Inner Cities" program.

The government of Upper Bavaria subsidizes the concept with 40,000 euros, the city has its own share of 8,000 euros.

Been on hold for a long time

During the local election campaign and the corona pandemic, the project was initially on hold, but now the "heart" is becoming reality.

"I'm already getting the first inquiries," announces Kapfer-Arrington - after all, Penzberg has over 120 clubs that need event rooms and a meeting place.

Kapfer-Arrington and Alexandra Link-Lichius discovered suitable tables and chairs for the former waiting room during a concert of their music group "Ça touche" at a dealer in old pub stock in Lower Bavaria and brought them with them without further ado.

The look and dimensions of the furniture are perfectly suited to the needs of the event space.

Meetings, exhibitions, concerts, celebrations - everything is possible.

In the technical room there is a mixer,

Loudspeakers and microphone systems are ready and the user groups can take care of themselves in the lounge with kitchenette.

Kapfer-Arrington is also proud of the smart locking system, which users can operate themselves using a chip or app.

"With the app, the cell phone becomes the house key," he says, explaining the user-friendly system.

Inauguration with music

Penzberg's new "Bürgerbahnhof" was inaugurated on Sunday evening (June 26).

In addition, the unusual band "Konnexion Balkon" played.

It was "a worthy conclusion" to the three-day city festival, Thomas Sendl, head of the culture, economy and communication department in the town hall, summed up with satisfaction the following day in an interview with the Rundschau.
