It is not the end of the mask requirement in public transport, which the Bavarian cabinet decided on Tuesday.

But the FFP2 mask is no longer mandatory.

Munich – It is one of the last relics of almost forgotten corona rules in Bavaria.

While most of the restrictions related to Covid-19 were already lifted in March and April, the FFP2 mask requirement on buses and trains is now also being lifted.

But it doesn't work without mouth and nose protection.

Bavarian cabinet decides to end FFP2 mask requirement on buses and trains

Despite the increasing number of corona, the obligation to wear an FFP2 mask on Bavaria's buses and trains in local transport will no longer apply at the beginning of July.

The cabinet around Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) decided on Tuesday in Munich that the Corona regulation would be extended by a further four weeks, but a medical mask is sufficient to fulfill the mask requirement.

The current regulation is valid until July 2nd.

It can be assumed that the new regulation will then apply directly afterwards.

"After more than two years of the corona pandemic, it is important that we keep examining our regulations and adapting them to the new circumstances," said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) of the German Press Agency in Munich.

In the hot summer months like at the moment and under the current conditions, it is proportionate to adapt the mask regulations so that everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to wear an FFP2 mask or a medical mask.

Söder cabinet confirms: mask requirement in public transport remains

"It is very important: The mask requirement in public transport remains in place!

We still need protective measures in view of the current infection situation.

We don't go through the summer lightly," emphasized Holetschek.

However, it is now up to the citizens to take responsibility for choosing an FFP2 mask or the surgical mask.

The "FFP2 mask has a higher protective effect.

But it is also crucial for protection that the mask is worn correctly at all times and that it is the right size and fit.”

Next: “We continue to recommend using FFP2 masks wherever many people come together in a small space.

But medical masks also offer protection when worn correctly at all times, and citizens are free to use them as well.”
