Starnberg - Until July 17, all schools in the district of Starnberg have the opportunity to become one of Bavaria's most active cyclists: For three weeks, as many routes as possible are covered by bike as part of the school cycling competition in Bavaria.

All schools can register for the competition and encourage students, teachers, school staff and parents to get on their bikes and pedal for climate protection.

At the invitation of the district office, students in class 3a at the Starnberg primary school got started on Tuesday morning.

At the start of school cycling, 21 pupils from class 3a from the Starnberg elementary school collected their first few kilometers on their bikes in a small cycling tour with the "Mobility Projects" section headed by Isabella Weber and city bike coordinator Herbert Schwarz from the Starnberg District Office.

Daniel Pichlmeier, Cycling Traffic Officer of the Starnberg District Office, also accompanied the short bike tour and is happy about the lively participation in school cycling: "It's nice to see that so many schoolchildren are taking part in school cycling and are having so much fun and joy.

It is precisely such initiatives that encourage younger people to ride their bikes more often – often in the long term – and thus promote sustainable mobility.

During a small stopover with a view of Lake Starnberg, the third graders were able to prove their cycling knowledge in a quiz.

The commitment was rewarded: there were homework books for the correct answer and a goodie bag with bicycle articles and information material on the subject of safe cycling for all pupils.

The competition draws attention to the importance of cycling as climate-friendly and active mobility - because every day you travel by bike is a personal contribution to climate protection and helps to avoid CO2.

School cycling takes place as part of the nationwide Stadtradeln campaign (“Cycling for a good climate”) of the Climate Alliance eV – and this year for the third time in a row as a Bavarian-wide competition for all schools.

We are looking for the "school with the most absolute kilometers cycled", the "school with the most active participants" and a "school with at least 20,000 kilometers cycled".

The awards and prizes will be presented as part of the Bavaria-wide closing event for city and school cycling in Munich.

Participate without additional effort: register online

At www.schulradeln-bayern.de, students, teachers, employees and parents of all secondary schools can find out more, register and join one of their school teams – or set up a new one.

Since the cycled kilometers are also added to the city cycling mileage, the participating schools make an active contribution to the good result of the Starnberg district.
