Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov stressed that Canadian sanctions on Moscow are "hostile and unfriendly and are just a symbolic position of the Justin Trudeau government," explaining that they will not affect the Russian economy in any way.
"These sanctions are a purely symbolic step from the Trudeau government, which has promised to systematically increase pressure on Russia and is now taking such measures, but there is no practical content in these sanctions," Stepanov said in a statement to the Russian Tass news agency. on the economy, on the companies or on the persons on the list because none of them deal or cooperate with the Canadian side.
Stepanov added: We will analyze this package of sanctions, as usual, in the framework of the principle of reciprocity, and an appropriate response will be given to it.
Yesterday, the Canadian government announced the imposition of sanctions on six individuals and 46 entities associated with the Russian military-industrial complex.
The day before yesterday, the Russian embassy in Canada described the Canadian authorities' attempts to accuse Russia of organizing a global famine, based on allegations that it prevented the export of grain from Ukraine, as "cheap propaganda."
