Done: The 2022 G7 summit at Schloss Elmau is over.

170 million euros in costs, 18,000 police officers, hundreds of helicopter flights in the Alps, long columns of vehicles to cart the security forces back and forth - that's also part of the balance sheet.

On the roads around Garmisch-Partenkirchen and in the district, normality can now return - we all deserved that after the hot summit days.

District – Time is so fast: The G7 summit 2022 is over.

The region around Garmisch-Partenkirchen was subjected to a stress test for days: border controls, traffic obstructions, blocked roads, police checkpoints at the access roads towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen, towards the Isar Valley and Ammer Valley, the Elmauer high valley was sealed off long before the start of the conference and helicopters, circling over the Werdenfelser Land.

The meeting of the G7 at Schloss Elmau was secured by a large police presence: 18,000 police officers were on duty at peak times.

The concept worked.

With a massive contingent, the Bavarian police ensured the summit at Schloss Elmau and security in the district.

When the security measures were ramped up, there were impairments, especially in the large-scale derived transit and national traffic, but then the procedure played out more and more.

Police President Manfred Hauser praised the excellent cooperation between all the authorities, organisations, specialist and auxiliary services involved: Such a major global political event could “only succeed with great commitment and the cooperation of many players”.

He thanked the federal and state governments for their support and for sending numerous emergency services to Bavaria.

The local population in particular deserves thanks and recognition.

The traffic obstructions, the controls, the aircraft noise are now a thing of the past.

Some people were annoyed and shook their heads in amazement at the effort and costs, which the Ministry of the Interior put at 170 million euros.

But in the end everyone is happy that the summit time passed peacefully.

Many authorities, institutions, but also shops had closed as a precaution.

The students had to accept three days of distance learning, the local buses in Garmisch-Partenkirchen had temporarily stopped operating.

Everything is slowly returning to normal, the heads of state and government have left, the deployment of the emergency services has begun.
