In the news
A source close to the matter stated that the Americans warned that if the laws were not passed before the dissolution of the Knesset, there was a real danger that the visa exemption for Israelis would be delayed for a long time and would not happen during 2023 as planned by the Biden administration.
Officials at the US Embassy also contacted officials on the joint list and asked them to vote in favor of the law. A visa exemption for Israelis will also serve Palestinians of American descent who can enter Israel more easily and without the delays that exist today.
why is it important
The Americans explained that because of the Corona crisis, the percentage of Israelis' applications for visas that were rejected was particularly low and created a window of opportunity for obtaining a visa exemption.
The Americans said that the time window will close on September 30, 2023 and in light of the political instability in Israel, the failure to pass laws now may significantly delay the process and may even frustrate it completely.
