Inspector: German Navy ready for leadership role in the Baltic Sea
5.53 a.m .:
The German Navy is ready for additional tasks in the joint defense of NATO territory in the Baltic Sea.
“The German Navy is not a small Navy in this region.
We gladly accept the responsibility that arises from this," said the Inspector of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, in a keynote speech on 100 days in office, which he delivered on Monday on board the tender "Rhein" in front of the chalk cliffs of the island held complaints.
The manuscript of the speech was available to the German Press Agency on Tuesday.
The German Navy has therefore offered to set up a regional naval headquarters for the Baltic Sea in Rostock, said Kaack.
He deliberately chose the time and place, said the Navy chief.
“Because the Russian attack on Ukraine has made it clear to all of us that a life in peace and freedom cannot be taken for granted and that law, democracy and human dignity need our protection.
All over.
Also and especially in the Baltic Sea, where friends and allies feel threatened again.«
He warned against underestimating Russia's military capabilities.
"In addition, you were all able to follow the sinking of the Russian cruiser Moskva and several other Russian units by Ukrainian missiles," said Kaack.
“However, we all should not be fooled by these images: the Russian Navy will emerge from this war essentially unscathed.
We – together with our allies – must be prepared for this.«
