In the middle of Nuremberg, passers-by found four barrels with an undefinable liquid.

The police classified the find as hazardous waste and are investigating.

Nuremberg – When talking about hazardous waste, the first thing that usually comes to mind is nuclear waste.

No wonder, since it is probably the most harmful form of waste and is not stored deep underground and behind solid walls for nothing.

However, the term hazardous waste also includes other types of waste – for example, explosive, toxic, combustible or pathogen-contaminated waste.

Hazardous waste was found in Nuremberg on Wednesday, June 22 – in the middle of the street.

Hazardous waste found in Nuremberg: laborious removal

According to a press release from the city of Nuremberg, a citizen had drawn the attention of field staff to the strange-looking barrels in front of the container of a used clothing collection on Austrasse.

There were four barrels, one of which was damaged and contained an oily, unidentifiable liquid.

The on-call service of the public space service company Nuremberg (Sör) was alerted, but their resources were not sufficient for disposal - the fire brigade and police were called in.

To ensure that the four barrels were safely transported away, the fire brigade wrapped them in plastic bags, which were then sealed with cable ties.

A specialist company then took over further disposal.

Unknown unload hazardous waste in Nuremberg: Mayor Vogel rumbles

There is currently no information on who caused it.

Mayor Christian Vogel sees more than one red line being crossed.

It should not be accepted that people get rid of the costly disposal of hazardous substances in this way.

Not only does the general public have to bear the work and costs, "the citizenry is also exposed to possible dangers."

Vogel is asking for the public's help. Anyone who has seen anything or can provide any other information about the four barrels should contact the Sör.

The phone number is: (09 11) 23 17 63 7. The mayor announced that a complaint would be made immediately and administrative offense proceedings would be initiated.

"Not only is the behavior shoddy, it represents a new kind of carelessness that appalls me," Vogel said.
