With the participation of Syria, the introductory meeting for the Education Transformation Summit to be held in New York next September, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, began today.
The preliminary meeting, which is currently being held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris and lasts for two days, aims to present the participating countries with their working papers and discuss them before presenting them at the main meeting of the Education Transformation Summit.
The activities of the first day, which were devoted to global youth participation, focused on several axes calling for the joint commitment of young people as equal partners in transforming education, and related to collaborative approaches to visualize future teaching methods, exchange ideas about them, and enhance the role of youth in transforming education in emergencies and crises.
In a speech during the meeting, Minister of Education Dr. Darem Tabbaa explained that integrating technology into education requires several factors, the most important of which are energy sources and access to the Internet, which requires global support in the use of artificial intelligence and the transition to virtual schools to provide learning opportunities for all.
A number of representatives of student and youth organizations in Syria gave speeches during the conference in which they stressed the importance of young people as equal partners in transforming education, noting that the difficulties that Syria suffers from due to unilateral economic measures have led to the removal of young people from cyberspace and the blocking of many educational websites and research sources and preventing them from Spreading their ideas as Syrian youth.
The introductory meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, Assistant Director-General for Education of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO Stefania Giannini, European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Jurpilinen and Youth Representative to the High Level Steering Committee
For the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals, Kenisha Arora and from Syria, along with the delegation of the Ministry attended, representatives of the National Union of Syrian Students, the Revolutionary Youth Union and the Syrian Trust for Development.
