The FDP brought up the idea of honoring athletes in Baierbrunn in the municipal council.
But the proposal was rejected.
Baierbrunn
– Every year in the small community of Baierbrunn, particularly deserving citizens are honored with medals at the New Year's reception.
This year, for example, former mayor Wolfgang Jirschik (ÜWG) received the citizen's medal, and Josef Fröhler, a long-standing CSU municipal councillor, was given the medal of honour.
The municipal councilor Ravindra Nath from the FDP has now submitted an application to honor athletes and sports teams who have distinguished themselves with “extraordinary achievements” once every twelve months.
However, the proposal was unanimously rejected.
"This is absolutely exaggerated"
Nath had put the whole thing broadly: he thought that athletes should also be honored if they only competed in the community or have "another personal connection" to Baierbrunn.
Ultimately, however, the municipal council members on the board did not want to know anything about it.
Alexander Lechner from the ÜWG and himself second chairman of SC Baierbrunn said: "That's absolutely exaggerated, it doesn't pay off either." After all, athletes could also be provided with the existing medals if they have done excellent things.
That has already happened.
Robert Gerb of the Greens agreed: "I'm not happy about the idea either.
We can nominate anyone we want for the citizen medal and the medal of honour.” Former mayor Christine Kammermeier (SPD) also found the current practice to be just right, and that the honors should not be overused.
"We should leave it as we are doing it now."
