On the second day of the introductory meeting of the Education Transformation Summit to be held in New York next September on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the participants discussed the commitment of countries to education transformation under the title “Ambition to Transform Education”.

Today's sessions from the virtual meeting currently taking place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris included an open discussion on how to achieve educational transformation through the transformation of domestic and international financing and relying on emerging results and proposals for a course of action.

In a speech during the meeting, the Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabaa, reviewed the measures taken by the ministry to prepare a national working paper on the transformation of education in light of wars and disasters, which includes the steps that the Syrian educational system has worked on in cooperation with international organizations to transform education by promoting life skills activities and developing Social emotional education and work to promote the culture of the rule of law and attention to public health and provision of its requirements to prevent epidemics and pandemics and ensure the safety of the school environment and from presenting the paper to the organizing committees of the Education Transformation Summit with a study that included youth dialogues on the future of education.

Minister Tabbaa affirmed Syria’s commitment to all the foundations that support the transformation in education and the belief in building a new generation capable of advancing its society, avoiding disasters and wars, and looking at the future of the world with a sustainable view, pointing to the importance of giving the Syrian experience in education during the years of war and the epidemic an opportunity at the next summit to help all countries that suffer From wars and epidemics in order to continue education to get out of their crises and to ensure the safety of generations from extremism and violence and to mitigate the causes of crime and lawlessness.

The second day of the introductory meeting was attended by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, President of Ethiopia, President of the International Commission on the Future of Education, Sahel Work Zwede, President of Sierra Leone, Co-Chair of the SDG4 High Level Steering Committee Julius Maada Bio.
