Update from June 29, 9:52 a.m

Frankfurt Airport tweeted: "Due to technical difficulties at German air traffic control in Langen, disruptions will continue to occur throughout European airspace.

As a result, there will continue to be operational delays and flight cancellations in FRA.”

Air passengers are asked to check the status of their flight before making their way to the airport.

Travelers should plan extra time and check in for their flight as early as possible.

Frankfurt Airport informed about the restrictions on flight operations at 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Apparently there were problems with German air traffic control for more than two hours.

The incident is reminiscent of the mega breakdown at the Swiss air traffic control Skyguide.

The Swiss airspace was closed for hours - no overflight was possible.

According to a Skyguide spokesman, a hardware component no longer worked properly.

Technical problems at the German Air Traffic Control (DFS) temporarily restricted air traffic over large parts of Germany early on Wednesday morning.
