With skill and precision in an art that is unique to him, investing his creative energies and academic experiences, the agricultural engineer Basil Muhammad from Homs governorate created carving on the fruits of pumpkins, designing shapes and writings that achieved him thousands of followers on social media and many offers for training in this field.

Engineer Basil started his creative career about ten years ago on the fruit of the Chinese gourd, where he says in a statement to SANA reporter: “I had a feeling that a buried beauty lies within the fruit of the Chinese gourd plant, so I started searching for it on the Internet and found that there are people who invested it in a beautiful artistic way and painted on its surface, but I After repeated efforts for about five years, I was able to complete the first sculptural work of the squash fruit, as I unloaded it from the inside and wrote on it in Arabic calligraphy manually using the picar on the surface of the fruit whose thickness does not exceed 2 mm, and in the best cases of squash, the thickness of the surface of the fruit to be carved does not exceed 4 mm.

Basil explained that he started the artistic work by carving on the fruits of the pumpkin and created his own method in a completely new way regarding cleaning the surface of the fruit from its very thin outer cover and manually, as the machine did not succeed in this art and succeeded in preserving the surface to be carved with high professionalism, investing his academic expertise in unloading the plant from The inner fibers and specifying the point from which he should start without losing the fruit or exposing its surface to breakage, as his efforts paid off by completing the first sculpture, after which the works followed with various and multiple contents carrying within it unique areas of elaborate and strange manual work to the eye of the beholder, especially after he inserted the lighting in it to make it appear more glowing .

His love and success in carving on gourds prompted him to complete “Ayat al-Kursi” with perfection on a rectangular gourd, as he worked on it for six consecutive months at a rate of six hours a day, pointing out that he has an intimate relationship today with Al-Bikar, who did not find an alternative for him in the completion of his various pieces of art. He also excelled in the sculpture of the Virgin in choosing the appropriate fruit in terms of the required thickness and dimensions.

Engineer Basil chose to develop his sculpting skills by crafting pieces of accessories from the fruits of gourd made in his own style and unique way, after he gained experience in training on the layers of gourd. Using or without burning The pieces look very nice and beautiful while maintaining the original light brown color and tone of the pumpkin.

Regarding the marketing of his products and his art, Eng. Basel used social networking sites, where he was followed by thousands of visitors from all over the world. On his page, he received offers for training in this art, explaining that he is working on the production of pumpkins in his village in the eastern countryside of Homs.

It is noteworthy that Eng. Basel obtained a craftsmanship certificate from the branch of the Craftsmen Union in Homs and is preparing to participate in the Qatna Cultural Tourism Festival, which is scheduled to be held in Homs during the month of August.
