Art in the midst of nature: That's what "Art in the Stadl" in Anzhofen stands for.

For 25 years now, the handicraft market, which has now developed into a real cultural festival, has been attracting numerous guests from near and far.

A little more of everything than usual is offered for a milestone birthday.

Anzhofen

– Boxes and boxes have been piling up in Helga Backu's house in Maisach for weeks.

A good two and a half kilometers away, in the hamlet of Anzhofen, people are busy working.

The residents mow the meadows, prepare the areas and clear the barn.

After all, the popular culture festival "Kunst im Stadl" will take place there again next weekend - for the 25th time.

(

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular

FFB newsletter.)

"The anticipation is huge after the two-year Corona break," says Helga Backus, who launched the event a quarter of a century ago.

Since then, the idyllic Anzhofen with its farmhouses, old orchards, sheds and barn has been transformed into a real artists' village.

Exhibitors from near and far present themselves and their works, there are workshops and various hands-on offers for families.

Thousands of visitors now flock to the hamlet.

The organizer discovered Stadl on a walk

Everything started out small.

Helga Backus discovered the small hamlet more or less by accident – while going for a walk.

Above all, the old Stadl, which stood openly, fascinated her then and still does today.

"The gigantic entablature is impressive," says the artist.

"The whole Anzhofen is just an idyll." That's how the idea came about to exhibit art there.

The residents - two families - agreed to the project - and also helped immediately, as Helga Backus explains.

Together they cleared out the Stadl, which is normally used as a granary.

In general, the residents of the Maisacherin are very important.

"It's so great that the local residents make it possible for me," she says.

“That cannot be taken for granted.” After all, they would be disturbed in their idyll, complete strangers would also get a glimpse of their private gardens.

"You can't really delimit all that there." In addition, people who know the little town through "Kunst im Stadl" would come to Anzhofen again and again during the year.

"Some think there's a beer garden there," says Helga Backus.

First market was a complete success

Of course, that was not the case 25 years ago.

Artists who were enthusiastic about Helga Backu's idea and wanted to present themselves were quickly found.

"There weren't many opportunities back then.

The event forum didn't exist yet," says the Maisacher.

And so, on the first weekend in July 1996, “Kunst im Stadl” was able to take place for the first time – with a good 20 exhibitors and numerous visitors.

"It was a total hit," says Helga Backus.

The market has only been canceled once since the farm was renovated.

On the occasion of the anniversary, there is a little more of everything in Anzhofen this year, as Helga Backus says: more space, more food stands, more music and also more exhibitors.

100 exhibitors and a children's railway

Among the approximately 100 artists is the milliner Ruth Zanken.

"She's been there since the beginning," says Helga Backus.

But new exhibitors are also at the start, such as the Roman painter Alessandro Serafini or the Lübeck sculptor Andrea Liske.

"This year there are also a number of artists from the Czech Republic and Switzerland," explains Helga Backus.

There is also live music on two stages.

Young artists from the district also perform.

"We also want to encourage musicians to get back on their feet," says the organizer.

Visitors can strengthen themselves at various food and drink stands and relax in several chill-out oases.

"Lingering is important," says Helga Backus.

There is an extra program for the children.

On Sundays they can even take a ride on a small train.

A day later, peace returns to idyllic Anzhofen.

At least until next year, when thousands of visitors will flock to "Kunst im Stadl" again.

The entire program of the culture festival and information on how to get there can be found online at www.kunst-im-stadl.de.
